Trust Is More Important Than Smartness
Ankur Warikoo once said:
“If I can’t trust you, it doesn’t matter how smart you are.”
As a manager, I strongly believe this.
In every team, there are different people.
Some people are very smart, but you cannot fully trust their work.
Even after mentoring them, you still need to check what they have done.
When they say, “I have completed the task,” you still feel the need to verify it.
Then there are people who may not be very smart, but they are honest and careful.
If they say the work is done, you don’t need to cross-check it.
Why? Because they make sure their work is correct and error-free.
Trust comes when:
- You test your work
- You take responsibility
- You don’t leave things half-done
As a manager, I prefer someone I can trust over someone who is smart but careless.
Because trust saves time.
Trust reduces stress.
Trust helps teams move faster.
